Laura Dempsey is a designer, strategist, and systems thinker who works at the intersection of disciplines, and sometimes, in the negative space between them. She currently consults as a senior strategist at Idea Couture, where she has partnered with cultural institutions, CPG companies, and urban systems innovators.
Laura collaborates with anthropologists, engineers, and fellow designers to discover uncommon, unexpected and unnoticed opportunities. She thinks about the future from a human-centred perspective, and is motivated by the deep belief that we are as equipped to innovate—and shape our collective future—by thinking and understanding, as we are by designing.
In her spare time, Laura designs wearable art pieces that fuse tradition with technology. This work has appeared in Make: Magazine, RFID Journal, and the Wall Street Journal, and been featured at CES and Xiamen Fashion Week.
She holds a Master of Design in Strategic Foresight + Innovation from OCAD University, a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies from Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary.
